The Phone Call

That phone illustration did help us teach the kiddos about prayer.  We asked them to consider how they would talk to God if they were making a phone call.  Asking for something wouldn't be the FIRST thing they would do.

We'd have to establish we were talking to the right person in the first place.

Hello?
Who's on the phone?  God.  WHO we're talking to matters!

Then we have to identify ourselves.
This is...
We see our sad state.  We can experience "interference" in our connection.  Confessing our sin clears the line, restores the relationship because we accept the forgiveness Christ has already purchased for us.  We can walk in the identity that is ours as children of God.

Now, let's show some manners...
Thank you.
We haven't covered this yet.  This is being grateful for how God has already answered prayer.  For how He has already revealed Himself through our circumstances and situations.   Because we know God through His Word, we also can know Him by how He acts in our lives.  We learn things about Him when His answer is "no" to one of our requests.  So, before we can ask for him to do anything for us, or others, we should THANK Him for what He has done.

Now, we can ask.
Will you please...?
Once we've prepared by clearing the interference and calibrating our hearts and minds to WHO He is and HOW He moves in our lives, we can ask for His help.  We ask Him now with a perspective that remembers that He is Mighty, and Loving, and Able.
We ask according to what would be consistent with who He is.  We ask for His will to be done.  The more we know Him, the more our requests will line up with things that are already in God's heart.

Simply put, we will not even think to ask for things that are inconsistent with His character.
